French far-right lawmaker sparks debate with proposal to reopen brothels

Jean-Philippe Tanguy, a lawmaker from Marine Le Pen's National Rally (RN), plans to submit a bill that would allow "maisons closes" to reopen in France for the first time since 1946, albeit run as cooperatives by sex workers themselves. Prostitution is technically legal in France, although a law introduced in 2016 made it illegal to buy sex.
