Former Disney CEO Bob Chapek has addressed his issues with Bob Iger. Chapek says his criticism is not personal. Instead, he takes issue with what Iger did to regain the CEO position in 2022.

In a recent interview with Valuetainment for Gen Z, Chapek addressed his “beef” with Iger. He said, “I don’t have a beef with Bob Iger.” Chapek then explained that he takes issue with “what Bob Iger did when he desired to get his job back.” He also said he did not believe Iger acted on behalf of Disney or its shareholders when he returned to the company. Chapek added, “I paid the price for it.”

Bob Chapek’s Disney story goes far beyond his clash with Bob Iger

Chapek became Disney CEO in February 2020 after spending 27 years at the company. His tenure began just weeks before the COVID-19 pandemic forced Disney to shut down its parks, theaters and cruise ships. Disney removed Chapek as CEO in November 2022, with Iger returning to the position.

Chapek has now shared his perspective in his memoir, Behind the Castle Walls: My Thirty Years at the Happiest Place on Earth. The book will be released on September 29, 2026, and covers Chapek’s entire Disney career rather than only his time as CEO.

Chapek explained that the memoir focuses on his story, not Iger or a business battle between the two executives. During the interview, he said, “This book is not about Bob Iger.” He described the memoir as an effort to engage in ‘some truth telling’ about his experience at Disney.

The book also goes beyond Chapek’s three years as CEO. He said it covers his upbringing in Indiana and the experiences that eventually allowed him to pursue a career at Disney. His 30 years with the company form the central focus of the story.

While Chapek remains critical of Iger’s return, he says his memoir is ultimately about telling his own story. It also details his perspective on his career and the circumstances surrounding his departure from Disney.
