Erika Slezak on How Her General Hospital Role Is Different From OLTL’s Victoria

Erika Slezak has recently made her debut on General Hospital, leaving fans curious about the new character. The Emmy-winning actress is known for her iconic role as Victoria “Viki” Lord on the popular soap opera One Life to Live. She has now returned as an exciting addition in Port Charles.

Slezak made her daytime comeback on the Friday, September 26 episode of General Hospital. The show introduced Slezak’s character at the end of the episode when Jane Elliot’s Tracy Quartermaine came across a mystery woman at the Quartermaine mausoleum to visit the late Monica Quartermaine. When Tracy enquired who she was, the woman said that she’s “someone who’s been waiting quite a while to meet” her.

Speaking with TV Insider, Slezak opened up about her return to soap opera and revealed that her new character differs from her time on One Life to Live. The actress was not actively looking to make a comeback, but it was GH‘s executive producer, Frank Valentini, who changed her mind. Slezak had previously worked with Valentini when he directed OLTL.

“We’ve been friends for a long time,” Slezak said. “[Valentini] called me in April and said, ‘Would you like to come out and play at General Hospital? ‘And I went, ‘Sure, sometime.’ And then he said, ‘Well, how about in September?’ And I went, ‘Sure, September is far enough away.’” Slezak recalled.

The actress then gave her thoughts on the new role after Valentini discussed it with her. “And then he filled me in on what he wanted for the story arc, and I said, ‘That’s very interesting, because it’s completely different from what I played on One Life to Live.’ And slowly, over the summer, it was dawning on me, ‘Oh, my gosh, I’m going back to work,’” she mused.

However, it is being said that her character, Veronica, will appear as a recurring character only. She will not return as a full-time character. For now, fans are still wondering how Veronica Bard is tied to the story and Monica. The upcoming episodes will reveal if she really is the elusive sister that Monica failed to mention before her death, or someone else.
