The scales well and truly all from Moira Dingle’s (Natalie J Robb) eyes in Emmerdale as she uncovered that husband Cain (Jeff Hordley) propositioned ex Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) while she was behind bars.
The farmer, as viewers know, spent months in prison earlier this year when she was framed by Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) for crimes of modern slavery in the wake of Celia Daniels’ (Jaye Griffiths) reign of terror.
Moira secured her freedom courtesy of Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley), who had unknowingly played a role in her ordeal, but prior to her unexpected release, Cain struggled without his wife by his side.
The mechanic had been diagnosed with prostate cancer and, fearing the impact the surgery would have on him, he hit the bottle and refused to undergo the operation.
Charity was quick to offer advice but Cain – struggling with the prospect of impotence and incontinence and feeling like he was failing his family when Moira needed him the most – hit self-destruct and propositioned her.
He soon realised the error of his ways and was delighted when Moira was released from captivity, with subsequent scenes seeing him undergo surgery.
In the weeks since the operation, Cain has struggled with the effects of the surgery, such as incontinence but, after some advice from Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson), he ordered leak-proof underwear online.
And on Tuesday’s (June 16) edition of the ITV soap, it was time for Cain to find out if the operation worked. To his devastation, the consultant revealed that – while the surgery was in fact a success – she suspects the cancer has spread and thus further tests will need carried out.
If her suspicions are proven correct, Cain will then require radiotherapy, with possibly side-effects being permanent impotence and incontinence.
The news left both he and Moira reeling and, when Kyle Winchester (Huey Quinn) picked up on the tension, the patriarch lashed out, storming out of his home after Isaac witnessed his outburst.
Moira sought advice from Charity, who reminded her about Cain’s penchant for hitting the self-destruct button at times like this – and she accidentally let slip about Cain propositioning her prior to his surgery.
The revelation left Moira seething and thus she confronted Cain, who said now was not the time for such a conversation.

But Moira wasn’t in the form for such a comment, saying that she didn’t care if it was ‘insensitive’ to discuss this in the wake of his news, telling him he’s ‘not even half’ the man she thought he was yesterday, storming off.
Is this the end of Moira and Cain? Or can they get through this, much like they have everything else, together?
