On March 11, Stake.com announced former Chelsea, Real Madrid, and Belgian football star Eden Hazard as their latest Global Ambassador. Breaking the news on X, Hazard said, “Get ready for a new game.”

While speaking about building “towards an unforgettable summer of football,” Stake.com noted that Hazard will “play a key role in fan engagement and awareness campaigns in the lead-up to the tournament, adding that they can’t wait to see what he’ll do next.”

The news was not overwhelmingly positive, with some users leaving comments like:

“Another useless partnership that has zero gain for the actual users….”

“RTP turned to 0 to pay for this”

“My oldboys team is actually looking for a sponsor”

But for Stake, the key is in the numbers. On their website, they list the platforms that account for the 58 million followers Hazard has across his social media accounts. This is a player who, while now retired, played during the rise of social media:

27 million followers on Instagram 21 million fans on Facebook 6.3 million followers on X 3.75 million followers on the Chinese platform Weibo

With the World Cup fast approaching in three months, Hazard will give Stake an extra boost among football fans for what is expected to be the biggest event in sports betting of the year.

Among the sponsorships listed on the Stake.com platform, eight are now in the football arena:

Everton F.C. (England) Fortaleza CEIF (Colombia) FBC Melgar (Perú) Enyimba (Nigeria) Kun Agüero (former Manchester City and Argentina player) Iker Casillas (former Real Madrid and Spain player) Patrice Evra (former Manchester United and France player) Eden Hazard (former Chelsea and Belgium player)

This is a clear indication of how important football betting is to the crypto gambling platform, as well as how they are trying to grow in emerging markets like Africa and South America.

The World Cup is going to be a global event, with all eyes on it, especially with games taking place across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

For sports betting platforms like Stake, the rise of prediction markets is going to make this a more fiercely contested event than ever. Stake already has a battle on its hands with many crypto gambling sites offering football betting. Plus, new prediction market giant platforms like Kalshi and Polymarket are now fighting for bettors’ attention.

Stake will hope that Eden Hazard, like in his Chelsea days, will be able to give his new team Stake the edge over the competition.

With the World Cup fast approaching, they have a game on their hands.
