Director Asif Kapadia, who won an Oscar for his beloved Amy Winehouse documentary Amy, has cemented his reputation as an expert in non-fiction biographical films. Before Amy, he directed Senna, an acclaimed documentary about the late Brazilian racing driver whose life was dramatized in a lavish Netflix series not too long ago. Kapadia also directed a well-received documentary feature about the late Argentinian soccer legend Diego Maradona in 2019. In addition to his non-fiction work, he has helmed scripted projects as well, with the most unexpected credit being two episodes of Netflix's Mindhunter. His latest film, however, was designed as a homage to one of his favorites: Chris Marker's 1962 classic La Jetée.
