A new face will be leading the Anaheim Ducks behind the bench next season.

The Ducks fired head coach Greg Cronin after two seasons and a 62-87-15 record, the team announced on Saturday.

“After several weeks of careful evaluation, I concluded we needed a change in direction and a new voice,” said general manager Pat Verbeek. “This was an extremely difficult decision for me to make, but I felt it was necessary to continue our progress toward becoming a Stanley Cup contender that I know we can be.”

Anaheim failed to make the playoffs in either of Cronin’s two seasons. Its last post-season appearance was in 2018, when it was swept by the San Jose Sharks in the first round.

The rebuild has been on almost ever since.

Cronin was tapped in 2023 to help Anaheim take the next step after five seasons as head coach of the AHL’s Colorado Eagles. He’d also spent time as an NHL assistant coach with the Toronto Maple Leafs and New York Islanders.

The Arlington, Mass., native presided over a 27-win Ducks club a year ago before winning eight more games this season.

Still, the team finished with four straight losses, and its 80 points left it well outside of the Western Conference playoff picture.
