The horror genre is packed with bare-bones, simple ideas that have been turned into fantastic feature-length films. Halloween is just about a guy who wants to kill random people. The Blair Witch Project sent some filmmakers into the woods with a camera to try and find an old legend. Saw is literally two dudes trapped in a bathroom. But with their feature debut Drag, writer-directors Raviv Ullman and Greg Yagolnitzer create an all-time simple premise: what if someone robbed a house, and their back went out? It’s a concept that both sounds like it couldn’t warrant an entire feature, yet also, you hear the idea, and you go, “Huh, well that is an intriguing idea…” Thankfully, Drag is a compelling 82 minutes, but even with that short runtime, it starts to feel like that concept is about to start running on fumes.
