Film and television have wasted no time trying to unpack the sheer magnitude of death and destruction caused by the opioid epidemic. Netflix's Painkiller turned the spotlight on the Sackler family and the role of the pharmaceutical industry, particularly Purdue Pharma, in aggressively pushing the benefits of pain relievers like OxyContin while downplaying the risks, while Hulu's Dopesick took a broader view of how it all began and the people whose lives were ruined. This year, however, Union County premiered at Sundance with a more personal look at the epidemic through the lens of two foster brothers struggling with addiction. Starring The Bear's Will Poulter and Street Fighter's Noah Centineo, the drama is now finally set to release this Friday from Oscilloscope Pictures.
