Netflix has announced the Dept. Q release date for its newest crime thriller led by Downton Abbey alum Matthew Goode as Morck. In addition, the streamer also dropped the first-look photos, offering viewers with a glimpse of some of the main cast members.
When is the Dept. Q release date?
Dept. Q will officially be available for streaming on Thursday, May 29. Joining Goode are Chloe Pirrie (Under The Banner of Heaven, The Queen’s Gambit), Alexej Manvelov (Jack Ryan, Top Dog), Kelly Macdonald (Line of Duty, Operation Mincemeat), Leah Byrne (Call The Midwife), and more.
The nine-episode series is written and directed by Oscar-nominated scribe Scott Frank (Out of Sight, Logan), based on Jussi Adler-Olsen’s Danish Nordic noir crime novel series. This marks Frank’s latest collaboration with the streamer following the critical success of the Anya Taylor-Joy-led miniseries The Queen’s Gambit. It is also executive produced by Frank, Rob Bullock, and Andy Harries.
“DCI Carl Morck is a brilliant cop but a terrible colleague. His razor-sharp sarcasm has made him no friends in Edinburgh police. After a shooting that leaves a young pc dead, and his partner paralysed, he finds himself exiled to the basement and the sole member of Department Q; a newly formed cold case unit,” reads the show’s official synopsis. “The department is a PR stunt, there to distract the public from the failures of an under-resourced, failing police force that is glad to see the back of him. But more by accident than design, Carl starts to build a gang of waifs and strays who have everything to prove. So, when the stone-cold trail of a prominent civil servant who disappeared several years ago starts to heat up, Carl is back doing what he does best – rattling cages and refusing to take no for an answer.”
