Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney) is struggling to find a new normal following her release from prison in Coronation Street.

Debbie has spent the majority of 2026 behind bars for a crime she didn’t commit. After Corriedale in January, Debbie took the fall for son Carl Webster (Jonathan Howard), who crashed his car while drunk. The collision impacted the way the crossover event played out, which also saw Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) die.

Her recent appeal was a success, which meant Debbie was released and sent back to Weatherfield. This week, she’s been busy trying to get back into the swing of things at her hotel, but it hasn’t been easy.

Debbie’s dementia has progressed in the time she’s been in prison, which sadly means the feisty and quick-witted side to her personality is slowly fading.

Yesterday, Debbie decided to look after a group of women preparing for a wedding, but things escalated when she started being offensive to the bride. Debbie thought she was being light-hearted, and failed to realise no-one was actually finding her amusing.

In this evening’s episode, Debbie was back at the hotel.

Sat at one of the tables was Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby) and Amy Barlow (Elle Mulvaney), who were meeting Nina Lucas (Mollie Gallagher) and Asha Alahan (Tanisha Gorey) for drinks. As soon as Summer spotted Debbie, she marched over in search of answers about the night Billy died.

Suspicious Summer outright asked Debbie if she was covering for someone, and wasn’t actually driving the car during Corriedale. The panicked look on Debbie’s face, and the fact she rushed away when Carl was mentioned, was more than enough of a confirmation for Summer.

As Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott) arrived, Debbie ended up grabbing the hot plates he had just picked up from the kitchen. While Debbie was aware her hands were burning, there was somewhat of a delay in her actually dropping the plates.

Carl arrived and set about helping his mum, and quickly batted off any comments from Summer about his involvement in the Corriedale crash. Back at the flat, Carl told Debbie that Summer knows the truth, but he intends to sort it out.

In upcoming episodes, Carl will tell Summer that he has information on what really happened to Billy, but won’t tell her for free.

Obviously.

Debbie will discover that Carl wants Billy’s life insurance money in exchange for the information.

It leaves her horrified, and the stress caused as a result of this clash with her son leads Debbie to having another one of her episodes.
