Deadliest Catch Sets Season 22 Release Date, Will Address Todd Meadows’ Death

Discovery Channel addressed the future of Deadliest Catch following one of its most tragic incidents ahead of the show’s Season 22 premiere. The network revealed how the long-running series will handle the loss of a crew member while charting new waters this season.

Discovery Channel will premiere Season 22 of Deadliest Catch on Friday, May 8 at 8 p.m. ET/PT. The 63-time Emmy-nominated series follows the fleet as it relocates 225 miles to St. George Island. A new king crab population appearing far north drives captains to abandon familiar fishing grounds for the first time in decades.

The fleet chases a rare breed of red king crab in frozen, remote waters worth a fortune. Captain Sig Hansen launches a covert scouting mission using an underwater drone to find the crab first. Captain “Wild Bill” Wichrowski journeys to St. George Island to guide the fleet through unfamiliar territory.

Deadliest Catch Season 22 will pay tribute to Todd Meadows

The season will honour deckhand Todd Meadows, who died on February 25 after falling overboard from the Aleutian Lady. According to a death certificate obtained by TMZ, Meadows died from “drowning with probable hypothermia” and “submersion of body in cold water.” The Alaska Department of Health ruled his death an accident.

Meadows joined the Aleutian Lady as a deckhand in May 2025 during production for the season’s second half. However, cameras were equipped on the vessel at the time, but Discovery will not show his death on air. The network confirmed the decision was made out of respect for his family and loved ones.

Additionally, the premiere episode will include a tribute, and later episodes will feature Meadows’ contributions to the crew. Discovery also plans to share how his loss impacted the Aleutian Lady crew and the wider fishing community.

Meanwhile, Captain Jake Anderson starts the season as a deckhand for the first time in 11 years after losing his boat and marriage. An unexpected opportunity to restore the legendary Cornelia Marie puts him back in the captain’s chair. Fremantle’s Original Productions produces the series for Discovery.
