Days of Our Lives’ Matthew Ashford Credits Melissa Reeves for His Return

Days of Our Lives star Matthew Ashford, who plays Jack Deveraux, recently gave an interview where he reflected on his return to the soap opera series and how his co-star Melissa Reeves, who essays his significant other Jennifer Horton, made the return smoother. Ashford and Reeves were last together in Bill Hayes’ Doug Williams send-off. Ashford debuted as Deveraux in 1987 and has been involved in numerous key storylines since then, most notably his relationship with Reeves’ Horton. Besides Ashford, other actors like Mark Valley, Steve Wilder, and Steve Witmer have essayed the role.

Matthew Ashford says Melissa Reeves made his return on Days of Our Lives ‘easier’

In a recent interview with Soap Opera Digest, Matthew Ashford stated that he and Melissa Reeves walked in and arrived at Salem together. He noted that their communication occurred “side-by-side in support of people who were really grieving.”

Ashford spoke of how Julie faced problems alone and how her issues became a concern for Jack and Jennifer, who tried to be by her side and help her deal with them. He also noted Chad’s entries and exits and how Abigail Devreaux‘s death still loomed over their lives.

The 65-year-old actor then stated that doing all of his scenes “was easier” with Reeves by his side.

“I was absolutely glad to have her back and playing opposite me,” he added. Ashford then pointed out how Melissa Reeves was “comfortable” with the Days of Our Lives world and knew how to approach the story.

Moreover, Ashford also revealed that he and Reeves had spent some time together away from the show and had breakfast together. During their time together, the two would discuss developments in their respective personal and family lives.

Ashford also remarked how he and Reeves couldn’t believe how they had been working together for 36 years. He stated, “This is something you could only do in daytime, and you do become very philosophical about it.”

Furthermore, Ashford also shared how he and Reeves shared a camaraderie with co-stars Stephen Nichols (Steve Johnson) and Mary-Beth Evans (Kayla-Brady Johnson). He pointed out that the four of them were “of the same time.”
