Amazon MGM Studios have set an April start of filming in both Brisbane, Australia and the picturesque Whitsunday Islands for the Kevin Costner and Jake Gyllenhaal-led dramedy “Honeymoon With Harry”.

The story centers on a free-spirited, impulsive man (Gyllenhaal) whose honeymoon plans are thrown into disarray, leaving him stuck navigating an island getaway alongside his fiancée’s guarded, difficult father (Costner).

What begins as a collision of personalities gradually gives way to an unlikely connection between the two. Sarah Pidgeon (“American Love Story”) is also in talks to join the cast.

Glenn Ficarra and John Requa (“Focus”) will direct and Dan Fogelman (“This Is Us”) will write the film, the trio having previous collaborated on 2011’s Gosling-Carell rom-com “Crazy, Stupid, Love” and more recently Hulu’s “Paradise” series.

Though filmed in Queensland, Ficarra and Requa indicate in a statement that the story will be set in “Chicago, the Caribbean and everything in between”. Amazon’s recent “The Bluff” pirate feature similarly used the Australian state to stand in for the Caribbean.

The project is adapted from a novel by Bart Baker. A previous attempt was made to adapt the story back in 2010 with Jonathan Demme directing while Robert De Niro and Bradley Cooper would’ve starred. That version never got out of development.
