Sunshine is one of those sci-fi movies people discover years later and immediately wonder why it was not bigger. Danny Boyle’s 2007 thriller has the scale of a major studio space movie, the mood of something much stranger, and the kind of cast that looks even better in hindsight. It is sleek, intense, and far more unsettling than its premise might first suggest. Even now, it still feels different from most big-screen sci-fi because it is not just interested in survival or spectacle.
