There was a time not too long ago when Christian Coleman stepping into a track meant a different thing altogether. Don’t believe? Check his US Indoor Championships world record in 2018, where he blazed the track in 6.34s. World Record! King of the 60m Dash- Coleman was that guy! But honestly, as the 2025 season has unfolded, something has felt off. The spark seems to be flickering!

They are not adding up the way fans are used to witnessing. From a second-place finish in the 4x100m Pepsi Florida relays, where the USA finished second to Canada, to a 10.06 at the Tom Jones Memorial (Only good for fourth place). But the latest result at the Xiamen Diamond League is the one that may rub salt in his wounds, as two-time champion, failed to even finish on the podium, with a sluggish fourth place. Coleman is not having the time of his life, and even coaches are beginning to say it out loud. And one such coach has something to say!

A Track and field coach, Rob, who runs his YouTube channel by Coach Rob Track and Field, gave an analysis about the 100m event at Xiamen Diamond League, which was won by 21-year-old Akani Simbine, and Coleman, even though he was the defending champion, slid to fourth. Speaking on that on his YouTube Channel, Rob shared,” Christian Coleman was supposed to win the race because he had already won the Xiamen Diamond League in the 100m dash two years in a row, so this one would be the third. Last year, when he did it, he won the event in a race against Fred Kerley and Akeem Blake.”

Christian Coleman, who hasn’t dropped below sub 10, with his season best racking at 10.06, it was always going to be a difficult job holding up the fastest man this year in Akani Simbine, noting that, Rob further added, “So even though Coleman was supposed to be like, I guess, I guess you would call him like a defending champion if we’re going off of that specific meeting. It was a toss up at this point, who was actually going to win. ……..because Akane Simbine was the world leader in the 100 coming into this moment.”

The story is developing….
