Chicago’s Latest Emergency Is A Word Nobody Can Define: Transfemicide

Someone needs to update the spellchecker. Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson has apparently invented a new word. The word is “transfemicide.” Johnson spent part of the weekend reminding residents that Chicago remains under a “Transfemicide State of Emergency.” We’re just making up words now. The term itself appears to have originated in activist and academic circles in Latin America before eventually making its way into reports, advocacy campaigns, and now Chicago City Hall.
