Rash Masum (Neet Mohan) will discover in tonight’s episode that his girlfriend Sunny Callaghan (Jamie Marie Leary) has been the person behind the drugs theft and tampering in the hospital.
What a nightmare!
The doctor struck up a connection with Sunny, the ED’s pharmacist, when he went to sort out his anti-depressant medication. Sunny had noticed that Rash’s dosage had changed and he smiled, touched that someone had picked up on the development.
Starting a relationship has certainly been unexpected for Rash, as he’s spent most of this year healing and working on himself after struggling with his mental health.
Last year, the character was in the spotlight in a boxset called Breaking Point, which saw him spiral after the sudden death of his father.
Rash threw himself into work to try and distract himself from the grief and loneliness he was feeling but as the weeks ticked on, the dark cloud following him got bigger.

Amid this, gossip was circulating in Holby ED as to who could be the hospital whistle-blower.
Rash then spotted dodgy Clinical Lead Patrick (Jamie Glover) tampering with a clamp in Resus, and called his boss out while in the lift.
Little did he know that brief moment would impact his reputation at Holby City Hospital entirely, as Patrick then attempted to destroy Rash, oblivious as to what was going on in his mind.
The beloved doctor became completely withdrawn over the duration of the boxset. Taking himself home, Rash reached a crisis point as he attempted to end his life.

He was found and ultimately saved by Tariq (Manpreet Bachu), his cousin.
Rash’s journey with Sunny over the course of this boxset has been a joy to watch. It’s been awkward in some places, but a perfect contrast to the other drama occurring in the ED, and a wonderful welcome after the difficulties Rash faced last year.
In last week’s episode, we discovered that Sunny was the person behind the drug thefts and tamperings. As Rash chatted to her son Jake, Sunny was seen finishing off a few jobs in the pharmacy, with Rash unaware she was switching some labels on vials.

Rash will learn the truth tonight after a revelation about Terry (Bill Fellows), a delivery driver.
Discussing the twist about Sunny, Neet Mohan told me: ‘I thought if it can really touch on some of those influences that those gangs have and we can play that through this storyline, I think we could tell a really interesting story in an interesting way. With what the paramedics have been going through in the boxset as well, to tie it all in, I thought it could be a really poignant story.’
Neet also confirmed that despite Rash’s feelings for Sunny, he has no hesitancies in doing the right thing and reporting her.
‘To see Rash come good as well in himself, he knows what the right thing to do is as soon as he finds out. He was never going to try and hide anything for her. Regardless of what she thinks, it’s so fundamentally against what Rash’s believes, they could never work after this.’

Given how far Rash has come in the last year, the development is bound to knock him.
‘I think he questions so massively about the people we meet’, Neet explained.
‘At the start of the boxset, he’s on the road to recovery, he’s in a much better place, he feels really more open to a lot of things. Then he’s betrayed like this, I think there’s a moment for him to really question how he could’ve let this happen.’
Before the boxset ends, Rash will face even more challenges when Sunny is brought into the ED.

His connection to Sunny leaves his colleagues wondering if Rash can treat her, but this is a man who wants to move further up the ladder where his career is concerned – he isn’t going to let his emotions impact him this time.
‘He fell for someone and became invested in something quite quickly, so this leaves him questioning so much in his personal life’, Neet said.
‘He has to step up and treat Sunny as well, and I think he is able to show that he can put his emotions to one side and treat her.
‘That’s always been a bit of a blurred line for him. That’s a big thing for him, and then go on the road to being a consultant as well.’
