Caitlin Clark’s Body Language Over a Stephanie White Decision Speaks Volumes in Viral Broadcast Footage During Fever’s Game vs Aces

The Indiana Fever lost 85-102 to the reigning champions, the Las Vegas Aces, in the first game of the Round 1 playoff series. However, more than the loss, one of the main talking points was the fact that Stephanie White chose to sub off one of the leading scorers for Indiana on the night, Caitlin Clark, even when the Fever were trailing in the third quarter. The viral broadcast footage has since gathered over 64 thousand views in a few hours. For WNBA analyst Darrell Harris, Clark’s reaction while getting substituted might expose some deeper issues in the Fever camp.

“Caitlin’s reaction to being subbed off with 6:00+ to play in the third .. Aces three soon after and Vegas leads 67-50. Vegas may be on the verge of getting Indiana to crack as they’re in full control,” wrote Harris on X.

The sequence happened with around 6:49 left in the third quarter. Clark was subbed out for Raven Johnson. Sophie Cunningham dribbled the ball quickly to the other end, following the substitution, and attempted a three. She missed, and the Aces grabbed the rebound. Then Jackie Young got the ball forward and assisted Cheyenne Parker-Tyus for a three.

Clark wasn’t too thrilled about getting benched, and she waved her arms in White’s direction. Her frustration was evident as she walked back to the bench, clearly unhappy with missing out on the remaining action on court.

This is not the first time tension between Caitlin Clark and Stephanie White has been on display over differing opinions. In June, the two were seen arguing on the bench during a game against the Portland Fire. While both downplayed the incident at the time, it’s clear that the exchange was not a one-off incident. Just a week back, Clark and White were again seen in a heated exchange as the Fever lost to the Washington Mystics.

Clark ended the night with 15 points, 10 assists, and three rebounds, across 34 minutes of play. Despite scoring her first double-double ever in the playoffs, it was a forgettable night for Caitlin Clark and Co. It was a game in which they were thoroughly outscored and outmatched in almost every major stat category.

The Fever started the game well, and the score was almost level after the first quarter. But the Aces ran riot in the second quarter. A’ja Wilson dropped a staggering 38 points on the night to show why she is the reigning MVP.

“She’s the MVP for a reason,” Aces player Chelsea Gray said during halftime, per ABC. “That’s all it is.”

Despite having the highest-scoring season in WNBA history, Kelsey Mitchell struggled to convert on the night, scoring 12 points on 4-of-16 shooting from the field. Aliyah Boston finished as the top scorer for Indiana, with 18.

Clark will look to perform better than her double-double performance in the next game. The Fever will quickly need to sort out any differences that they might have, as the next game is a must-win to force a Game 3. A win for the Aces will take them to the conference semifinals, ending the Indiana Fever’s season.
