Bryan Cranston has a warning for Malcolm in the Middle fans, and it has nothing to do with Walter White. The Breaking Bad star is back as the beloved Hal, and it turns out some things about the character have not changed one bit. Cranston is already apologizing ahead of the revival’s Disney+ premiere, and let’s just say it involves considerably less clothing than most would prefer.
Bryan Cranston reveals how many times Hal gets naked in new revival
Bryan Cranston has revealed that his character Hal appears naked twice in the new Malcolm in the Middle revival.
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, the actor joked that viewers should “turn away” and “cover your kid’s eyes” ahead of the premiere. Cranston also apologized in advance for the scenes.
The nudity fits within the show’s established ethos, which Cranston described to ET as “Hal’s going to be naked at some point during this thing.” The revival, subtitled Life’s Still Unfair, premieres on Disney+ on April 10. It reunites the original cast for Hal and Lois’s 40th wedding anniversary celebration across four half-hour episodes.
Cranston acknowledged to The Guardian that stripping down has become a recurring theme in his career. “Taking my clothes off seems to be my whole life,” he said. He recently won an Emmy for appearing in Seth Rogen’s comedy The Studio, where he wore a leopard-skin thong. The actor told The Guardian he believed “a nudity clause meant that it was circumspect as to when someone was going to be naked.”
The 70-year-old also reflected on the more extreme physical commitments he made during the original run. Cranston told The Guardian he endured 60,000 honey bees covering his body and got stung in the crotch. He also drank a blended concoction of raw meat and eggs on camera in a single unbroken shot. “All in the name of comedy, man. You gotta go for it,” he told the outlet.
Cranston’s dedication to the role extends beyond physical stunts in the revival. In the new episodes, he performs a choreographed dance routine in a supermarket and accidentally takes enough hallucinogens for 15 elephants.
The four-episode series arrives on Disney+ on April 10.
