Bono backs Bruce Springsteen against Trump: “There’s only one Boss in America”

Bono has voiced his support for Bruce Springsteen from President Donald Trump‘s recent comments – see what the U2 frontman had to say below.

Bono appeared on a recent episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, where he addressed the ongoing feud between the US President and Bruce Springsteen – which reached new heights earlier this month when The Boss took to the stage in England and called Trump an “unfit president” and accused him of leading a “corrupt, incompetent, and treasonous administration”.

Trump retaliated by taking to his Truth Social platform and describing Springsteen as a “dried-out prune of a rocker” and “not a talented guy.” He then insinuated that there could be a federal investigation into the support for Kamala Harris from Springsteen, Beyoncé, Oprah, Bono and “many others”, as well as sharing a fake video that showed him knocking over Springsteen with a golf ball.

Donald Trump also shared an alarming post on social media, seemingly threatening Springsteen, saying the musician “ought to KEEP HIS MOUTH SHUT until he gets back into the Country, that’s just ‘standard fare.’ Then we’ll all see how it goes for him!”

When asked by Jimmy Kimmel whose side Bono was on in the feud, he said to raucous applause: “I think there’s only one Boss in America.”

Bono then commented on Trump namedropping him campaigning for Kamala Harris: “Two points I’ll make. One: to be in the company of Bruce Springsteen, Beyoncé and Oprah – I’ll play tambourine in that band.”

“And two: U2 and I have never been paid or played a show to support any candidate from any party. It has never happened. I know that it’s called Truth Social, it seems to be pretty antisocial, and it’s not very true a lot of the time.”

Other artists backing Springsteen amid the backlash from Trump have included Neil Young, who urged the President to “STOP THINKING ABOUT WHAT ROCKERS ARE SAYING. Think about saving America from the mess you made”, and Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder, who insisted that “Part of free speech is open discussion. Part of democracy is healthy public discourse.”

“The name-calling is so beneath us,” he added. “Bruce has always been as pro-American with his values and liberty, and his justice has always remained intact. And I’m saying this now to be sure this freedom to speak will still exist in a year or two when we come back to this microphone.”

Rage Against The Machine‘s Tom Morello – who has long been vocal about his disdain for Trump – has also supported Springsteen: “Bruce is going after Trump because Bruce, his whole life, he’s been about truth, justice, democracy, equality. And Trump is mad at him because Bruce draws a bigger audience. Fuck that guy!”

Elsewhere, Bono last week spoke out against Hamas, Benjamin Netanyahu and Israeli “far-right fundamentalists” at the 2025 Ivor Novello Awards: “Hamas, release the hostages, stop the war. Israel, be released from Benjamin Netanyahu and the far-right fundamentalists that twist your sacred texts.”
