Fans of the Belcher family will have a new reason to celebrate this December, even as the series takes an unusual break from its traditional fall broadcast schedule. During a panel at New York Comic Con 2026, the creators of Bob’s Burgers announced a new holiday-themed short titled “On the Fort Day of Christmas,” which is scheduled to premiere on December 7, 2026.

The announcement serves as a festive bridge for the long-running animated comedy, which is currently in the midst of its first significant fall hiatus in several years. While Bob’s Burgers typically anchors FOX’s autumn animation lineup, Season 17 has been shifted to a midseason return, with new episodes not expected to air on the network until early 2027.

A Snowy Holiday Special for the Belcher Kids

The upcoming short focuses on the younger generation of the Belcher family. According to the plot details shared during the panel, the story centers on Louise, Gene, and Tina as they attempt to build a record-breaking snow fort during a major Christmas snowstorm. The digital-exclusive release follows a growing trend of 20th Television Animation producing standalone content for streaming platforms to maintain audience engagement during broadcast gaps.

The short will stream exclusively on Hulu in the United States, and will also be available via the Hulu on Disney+ bundle. For viewers outside of the U.S., the special is expected to debut on Disney+ on the same date.

The first look at the holiday short was presented during an October 10 panel that featured series creator Loren Bouchard alongside the full main voice cast. H. Jon Benjamin, John Roberts, Kristen Schaal, Eugene Mirman, Dan Mintz, and Larry Murphy were all in attendance to discuss the upcoming project and the future of the series.

Season 17 and Beyond

The shift of Season 17 to the 2027 midseason window does not signal a slowdown for the franchise. The series remains a cornerstone of the FOX animation block and has already been officially renewed through Season 19, which will keep the Belchers on the air through the 2028-2029 broadcast season.

In addition to the holiday short news, the NYCC panel highlighted first-look footage from the upcoming holiday special and discussed the series’ return to its regular Sunday night slot. For now, “On the Fort Day of Christmas” will serve as the primary holiday offering for fans during the current broadcast intermission.
