Billy stunned by Caleb and Ruby’s Emmerdale secret – but Caleb has another twist in store

Poor Billy Fletcher (Jay Kontzle). He’s got himself mixed up in some dirty business in Emmerdale, with Caleb Miligan (William Ash), Dawn Taylor (Olivia Bromley) and the Tates.

Billy got himself roped into Caleb’s counterfeit business, his first mistake. It means he is now essentially owned by Caleb.

Billy has also been causing controversy elsewhere – having kissed ex Dawn just weeks before her wedding. It seemed like someone then had it in for him as he was found on the depot floor with his head bashed in.

What really happened is that he disturbed Kev Townsend (Chris Coghill) who was trying to stop Steve from doing the depot over, and Billy got in the way. But what Caleb is having the world believe is that Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) was his attacker.

Will Ash calls Billy ‘collateral damage’. Speaking of revenge on Joe, Will tells Metro: ‘I think everybody wants to get their own back, but with Caleb being Caleb, there’s always collateral damage with that, and that’s Billy.

‘Caleb’s pretty selfish and driven. He’ll look after himself and Ruby before anyone. They’ll always come first. That’s why he uses Billy. You feel for Billy, because he ends up being collateral damage.’

Poor Billy. Will added that Billy is the ‘purest person’, which means he doesn’t see any of it coming.

After his attack, Caleb was in Billy’s ear that Joe had whacked him on the head and caused his brain bleed. Secretly, Caleb’s wife Ruby Miligan (Beth Cordingly) was deleting the CCTV footage of Kev doing it.

Caleb had vowed to Ruby he would stop at nothing to get rid of Joe and blimey did he mean it.

Ruby uses the footage to laude it over Kev and force him into committing a crime to support her financial gain – he’s blackmailed into stealing one of Jimmy’s Haulage shipments after she finds out his business is going under.

Kev does the job but is more than frustrated to discover the haul was only 3000 nappies.

Now he needs revenge, and when he sees Caleb on the laptop where the CCTV footage is saved, he jumps at the chance to dump a jug of water on it and repeatedly smash it on the floor. Crime erased, he’s free of the Fox-Milligan’s clutches.

But though he’s nearly got away with it, he gives himself away. At the Sten do, Kev gets drunk and his annoyance at Caleb gets the better of his drunken self. He wanders over to Billy and apologises for putting him in hospital.

Speaking of the moment Kev put his foot in it, Chris tells us: ‘Billy says that makes him think he already knows, and Kev apologises to him, and says, “Look, you understand. You’ve been in prison. These things happen. I’ll make it up to you.”’

This is brand new information for Billy, who is even more shocked to discover Caleb and Ruby knew the truth the whole time. Joe Tate did not bosh him on the head. He learns the full facts, which Chris tells us is Billy actually attacked Kev.

‘He attacked me, and I was restraining him so he didn’t hurt himself. It was self-defence.’ We believe you, Chris. Kev never meant to hurt Billy so badly. ‘Kev thinks he’s just given him a little love tap,’ he says, which led to a brain bleed.

But now Billy knows, will he come clean to Dawn?

He’s planning on a doing a flit with Dawn, having asked Caleb to prepare some fake passports, so now seems like a bad time to say anything.

Caleb is making a bed for himself as Kev turns the tables and warns them of exposing their outfit if he’s threatened with prison.

Things start to bubble over when Caleb refuses to hand over fake passports to Billy. He wants to do it on Joe’s wedding day for the ultimate humiliation. But will Billy play the game or play the fool?
