Irish band Kneecap’s controversy at Coachella 2025 explained
According to a report by The New York Post, the Irish band Kneecap sparked controversy after they displayed anti-Israel messages while performing at the Coachella Festival 2025.
The hip-hop trio performed during the second half of Coachella and went on to voice their support for Palestine and criticize Israel for the ongoing situation in Gaza. Member Mo Chara went on to address the crowd and said, “They’re bombing them from the skies. If you’re not calling it a genocide, what the f— are you calling it?”
The screen on the stage projected, “F— Israel Free Palestine,” and then displayed, “The US government arms and funds Israel despite its war crimes.”
This prompted criticism from people on social media, who called out the organizers, AEG Presents, and Goldenvoice, for allowing the statements during the performance. In the defense of Goldenvoice’s CEO, Paul Tollett, record executive Scooter Braun came forward on his Instagram and wrote, “He fights for artists and he fights for all people. When I invited him to the opening of the Nova music exhibit in Los Angeles, he was the first person from the industry to accept. He came on his own time and spent five hours in the exhibit and then met with survivors of nova.”
Braun further added, “He cried with them, he laughed with them, and he continues to advocate for them. Let’s not lose sight of who this man is, and let us stand with him in this moment when a group, without his knowing, took advantage of his festival and created hate in a place that’s filled with love.”
