After two years at the helm, it’s been announced that David Tennant will not be returning to present next year’s Baftas.

David took over as the British awards ceremony’s host in 2024, before returning for last year’s star-studded event.

However, on Thursday morning, it was confirmed the show would get a new host in 2026, in the form of Alan Cumming, who already fronted the TV Baftas earlier this year.

The Scottish actor enthused: “How exciting to be back in the Bafta fold, this time hosting the EE Bafta Film Awards, a night like no other when we celebrate and honour creativity and craftsmanship – and also hopefully have a laugh and create some mischief as we do so!”

Primarily known for his work in the acting world, Alan has appeared in everything from the X-Men movies and the James Bond series to films like Eyes Wide Shut, Romy & Michele’s High School Reunion and Spy Kids, as well as the television drama The Good Wife.

Over the years, he has also turned his hand to TV presenting on several occasions, most recently on the US version of the reality show The Traitors, for which he has now already won four Emmys.

In 2018, Alan was awarded an Outstanding Contribution To Film And Television prize by Bafta Scotland.

Bafta’s executive director of awards and content said on Thursday: “With his sharp wit, warmth and vibrant energy, we are beyond excited that Alan Cumming will be hosting this year’s EE BAFTA Film Awards.

“As we honour the outstanding talent in film that brings stories to life on screen, we know that Alan will give us an unforgettable night full of laughter, magic and plenty of surprises, and maybe some extraordinary outfits!”

The 2026 Baftas, honouring the biggest achievements in cinema from the last year, will take place on Sunday 22 February 2026.
