The hosts got off to the perfect start as Ollie Watkins’ deflected strike wrong-footed Nick Pope and into the net.

Fabian Schar made amends for his poor defending of the goal as he headed in the leveller at the 17th minute.

Villa hit back to restore the lead in the 64th minute as Ian Maatsen made a darting run up the wing before firing past Pope.

The result was tied up in the 73rd minute as Dan Burn turned the ball into his own net off a Jacob Ramsey cross.

Amadou Onana then put the cherry on top with a brilliant finish just two minutes later from the edge of the box.
