Three dogs attacked and injured people in Hartlepool after they escaped from a property.

Armed officers rushed to Sheriff Street in Hartlepool this afternoon after three German Shepherds escaped from a home and attacked people.

Residents in the neighbourhood were told to keep their doors closed and stay indoors as the animals were on the loose.

Three people were injured when the dogs lunged at them.

The police confirmed that ‘none of the dogs have been destroyed’ following ‘some speculation circulating on social media.’

Cleveland Police said: ‘Three dogs have been seized by police following an incident in Hartlepool shortly before 2pm this afternoon (Sunday 1st June).

‘The German Shepherd dogs had escaped from a property on Sheriff Street in Hartlepool and attacked several people in the street. Those injured were treated by paramedics at the scene.

‘All of the dogs have been removed from the property by officers, and the area is now safe again.’
