Andy Serkis Joins New Version of The Odyssey After Hit 2026 Movie, But It’s Not What You Think

Andy Serkis is set to join a new version of The Odyssey. However, the upcoming project is quite different from Christopher Nolan‘s epic action-fantasy film, which was released in July 2026.

Deadline has exclusively reported that the Lord of the Rings star is in talks for an Audible Original narration, Odysseus Rising. The project is written by Adrian Tchaikovsky and will be a science-fiction take on Homer’s The Odyssey. Reportedly, Odysseus Rising has been in development since 2024 and is set to launch on February 25, 2027.

The official synopsis of Odysseus Rising reads, “After a decade of war, Ilium is reduced to a ruined world of ashes…The Ithaca, a ship besieged by oligarchs and parasites, resolutely awaits the return of their Captain. Carrying the weight of duty and the dead, Odysseus begins the long journey home, flying in the face of the Gods.”

It continues, “But the Gods will not be defied. If Odysseus is doomed to never reach the safe harbour of his people, he must find a way to bring the Ithaca to him. And so, his real journey begins, not through space, but deep into time itself.”

Alongside narrating Odysseus Rising, Andy Serkis is working on an upcoming Lord of the Rings project as an actor and filmmaker. He will reprise his iconic role of Gollum in The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum. In addition, the 62-year-old is the primary director of the Warner Bros. Picture Project.

Talking about the character of Gollum, Serkis said, per CBS Saturday Morning, “Tolkien created this enormously complex character which really does warrant some more investigation. We learn a great deal about him in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, but there’s a whole part of his psychology and an investigation of what the Ring actually means to him, which is yet to be uncovered.”

The summary of the adventure fantasy, per IMDb, reads, “Aragorn’s quest to capture Gollum between The Hobbit and Fellowship of the Ring, tracking him to keep the Ring’s location from Sauron. The film explores Aragorn’s early adventures as a ranger.”

The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum is scheduled to hit the screens on December 17, 2027.
