Ali Hazelwood’s popular novel will reportedly be adapted into a movie with Colleen Hoover as one of its producers. The news comes just a few months before the film adaptation of another Hazelwood novel hits Prime Video.
Ali Hazelwood’s Love, Theoretically movie will be produced by Colleen Hoover
Amazon MGM Studios is reportedly turning Ali Hazelwood’s bestselling novel Love, Theoretically, into a movie.
Colleen Hoover (author of It Ends With Us) and her production partner, Lauren Levine, will produce the movie. Hazelwood is executive producing. They will be joined by Max Siemers and Tanner Anderson of Magic Hour Entertainment. Furthermore, Sofia Alvarez (director of Along for the Ride) will helm the adaptation and will also serve as an executive producer (via Deadline).
Love, Theoretically centers on Elsie Hannaway, a physics teacher who works several part-time jobs to pay her bills, including pretending to be someone’s girlfriend. She works tirelessly to get a full-time job at MIT. However, it becomes difficult when Elsie meets Jack, an experimental physicist who derailed her mentor’s career, who is on the university’s hiring committee. But as they spend more time together, Elsie realizes she misunderstood him.
At the moment, the filmmakers have not announced who will portray the roles on screen. However, it is expected to stream on Prime Video, though the decision may change at a later stage.
Meanwhile, the adaptation of Hazelwood’s The Love Hypothesis will premiere on Prime Video on September 23, 2026. It is directed by Claire Scanlon, based on a screenplay by Sarah Rothschild. It stars Lili Reinhart, Tom Bateman, Rachel Marsh, Jaboukie Young-White, Nicholas Duvernay, and Arty Froushan, among others.
The Love Hypothesis follows Olive Smith, a PhD student who starts a fake relationship with Professor Adam Carlsen to test their theories about love. While trying to convince others of their relationship, Olive and Adam eventually fall in love.
