Akshay Kumar Opens Up About Not Being The Main Lead In Golmaal 5 And His Equation With Ajay Devgn

The Golmaal franchise is synonymous with laughter, chaos, and a stellar ensemble cast. While fans were already thrilled about the announcement of the fifth part, the news of Akshay Kumar joining the family has taken the excitement to a whole new level. However, his entry into the franchise has sparked conversations about screen time and lead roles. In a recent interaction with News 18, Akshay cleared the air about his position in the film and his thoughts on working with Ajay Devgn.

Addressing the dynamics of the upcoming film, Akshay displayed a very grounded perspective. He acknowledged that while he is a significant addition to the cast, Ajay Devgn remains the central figure of the franchise. He said, "I'm happy that they think I was good enough to be a part of Golmaal. Ajay is the main hero. I'm not playing the main part. But what's wrong with it?" Akshay explained that for him, the impact of the film as a whole outweighs his individual screen time. He said, "I look at a film as a film and never think ki main kya kar raha hoon uss film mein. For me, it's far more important what the film is setting out to achieve. If I like the story, I'll do it."

When asked about potential insecurities about Ajay Devgn leading the project, Akshay was quick to dismiss the idea. He said, "Mera role badhiya hai Golmaal mein but Ajay's the hero. I've no insecurity. Uski koi zaroorat nahi hai.” This camaraderie was also seen during the film’s announcement video, which was released on March 14 to mark director Rohit Shetty’s birthday. The promo featured the OG squad of Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi, Shreyas Talpade, Kunal Kemmu, and Tusshar Kapoor, welcoming back Sharman Joshi. The surprise twist came when Akshay appeared, prompting a witty remark from Ajay Devgn: "Koi bhi franchise nahi chodta."

Akshay also shed light on how he selects his projects. Despite his massive stardom, he remains focused on freshness and variety. He explained, "I see fresh scripts and ideas coming to me all the time. Main yeh dekhna chahta hoon ki main kya alag kar sakta hoon, kaise kar sakta hoon.” He mentioned that as an actor, one must choose carefully from the roles offered, as the rest go to other actors.
