Is it a legacy sequel, a spin-off, or a reboot? Fans clearly didn't care to find out, as The Social Reckoning underperformed in its box-office debut. The movie was marketed as a continuation of the generational classic 2010 film The Social Network, but without the involvement of director David Fincher or any of the acclaimed cast members. The only member of the original creative team who returned is Aaron Sorkin, who serves as both the writer and director this time around. Sorkin won an Oscar for writing The Social Network, a film many agree was robbed of the Best Picture Academy Award. Unlike that film, however, The Social Reckoning opened to mediocre reviews and disappointing box-office returns.
