Starting as just a distributor, A24's humble beginnings saw them distributing artfully-minded and auteurist films that the mainstream studios abandoned at the dawn of the IP and superhero takeover. As the studio grew in popular estimation and acclaim, they accrued enough business interest to begin producing and distributing their own projects. By the end of the 2010s, A24 was now a brand name that cinephiles practically adored. Despite being the antidote to soulless commercial filmmaking, people have clung to them as a brand, as if they were the Marvel Cinematic Universe for people with Letterboxd profiles. Like all contemporary studios recently, A24 has become oversaturated with films on the release calendar in 2025, diluting the standard of excellence and event-like nature of their identity.
