Olivia Wilde revealed that Walton Goggins saved her life during a horrific horse-riding incident while filming Cowboys & Aliens. Goggins came to her rescue as she feared being trampled by a group of oncoming horses. She also appreciated his horse-riding skills and how wonderfully he handled the situation while avoiding it from turning into a fatal accident.

In a conversation on Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard, Wilde shared details on the bad horse-riding incident during filming, which could have turned fatal if Goggins hadn’t come to rescue. She said, “Walt Goggins saved my life on that movie. He did. I had a very bad horse accident, and he saved me.”

She revealed that while filming their Cowboys & Aliens, there was a shot in particular, which sees her riding alongside Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, and about 40 trailing horses. In that scene, the horse she rode accidentally jumped over a large ditch, which led to her being tossed and hitting her head and back. She landed at a spot that had elevated ground, disabling anyone from seeing her. However, she could still hear the voices of the horses approaching her.

“And I had the thought — it sounds so dramatic — but I thought, it’ll be quick. It’ll be like pulverized applesauce. Out,” she added. The actress further mentioned that Goggins quickly became aware of the situation and saw it coming, immediately heading towards her. She said that he kept his horse sideways in front of her and took the impact onto himself. “And he’s a great rider, so he was able to handle that.” The other riders also ensured to steer their horses around him and not unleash them in a straight direction. Wilde credited Goggins for saving her life with his confident move. “And so I owe him my life. It’s crazy. He’s a real-life hero,” she said, showering praises on Goggins.
