Audiences have ubiquitously become suspicious of “remakes” of classic films. This is generally because the motivation for remaking an iconic moving picture seems solely financial in nature. Studios are aware that “name recognition” of a film or franchise equals guaranteed revenue, which puts large Cheshire Cat grins on the faces of the execs. But then, every once in a while, a remake of a classic comes along that is equal to, or, heaven forfend, even exceeds the original.
