Some of the best television shows draw inspiration from non-fiction books, bringing them to life for a wider audience. Genre fiction has a broad appeal because there’s so much that falls under that umbrella. If a person doesn’t like a mystery, they can just pick up a fantasy. On the other hand, non-fiction can be much harder to get into. The subject matter can vary greatly, but there are only a limited number of formats. There's also no distance from reality, making it less escapist. In my experience, the genre is generally one that people either love or hate.
