Charles M. Schulz created a monolith with what seemed like the simplest of comic strips about a group of kids in Peanuts. What originated in the 1950s as a group of suburban children with no adults in sight, turned into a surprisingly deep philosophical experience often distilled in four panels aside from on Sundays. It continues to enthrall new generations with its grasp on humor, but also an earnest portrayal of a whole spectrum of emotion, from joy to complex childhood melancholia. It's the latter that shapes certain comic strips above others, with one of its most famous examples changing its poster child, Charlie Brown, forever.
