I love reading book series. There’s just something so special about following a story through the years as you yourself grow and change alongside it. Or maybe you discover a series later, and marathoning those books has its own kind of magic, too. Either way, all good things must come to an end. It’s simply part of the journey: all stories reach a version of “The End” to make space for something new.
I think the YA genre does this especially well— and I feel like lately, series might be more common in young adult fiction. Maybe it’s because when we’re younger, we have more time to read. Of course, we can read YA as adults too, but stories targeted to younger readers can afford to be longer and more drawn out, simply because they have (or at least should have) more time to enjoy the things they love. In any case, these YA series wrapping up in 2026 are all thought-provoking, emotional, engaging, and just plain fun to read.
One more thing before we jump right in: this lineup is a little fantasy-heavy for sure. I think it’s easier for speculative stories to have more installments. But there’s also a little mystery and even some contemporary romance thrown in. So whether you’re looking for a new YA series to marathon or to catch up with before its finale, there’s something for everyone in this list.
Without further ado, let’s look at seven YA series wrapping up in 2026.
YA Series Wrapping Up in 2026
![]() The Dragon and the Sun Lotus by Amélie Wen ZhaoThe second book in The Three Realms Duology series finally came out earlier this year! This story begins with The Scorpion and the Night Blossom, which follows Àn’yīng and her journey through the Immortality Trials. She hopes to win them so she can get the pill of eternal life and cure her mother. The trials are known to be deadly. Still, she finds help in another competitor named Yù’chén. But can she really trust this stranger? You’ll have to read both book one and two to find out. |
![]() Jin Young, In Between by Ellen Oh (May 26)The Colliding Worlds series began with The Colliding Worlds of Mina Lee. Book one tells the story of a Korean American teen, who was sucked into the world of her own web comic. There are superheroes and villains, and a handsome boy named Jin *wink wink*. The stakes are high, even if they’re all happening inside of Mina’s fictional world. I won’t spoil the end, let’s just say their story continues in this second book. And it’s Jin’s turn to tell it! |
![]() Brighter Than Nine by June C.L. TanThe Darker by Four series also ended earlier this year! This duology began with Darker by Four, which follows three main characters. There’s Rui, who wants to use her magic to avenge her mother; Yiran, who has no magic at all; and Nikai, a Reaper whose death god has disappeared. This last detail threatens both the underworld and the human world, so their paths will intersect as they try to save them both. |
![]() The Gilded Blade by Jennifer Lynn Barnes (July 14)This next book is special, because it concludes both The Grandest Game series as well as the Inheritance Games Saga, one of the most popular YA mysteries of the past few years! This trilogy began with The Grandest Game, which introduces the seven players whose turn it is to fight for fame and fortune in Avery Grambs’ annual competition. Throughout these books, there is so much to win— money, power, revenge— but the players could lose everything, too. And every game must end. |
![]() Heartstopper: Volume 6 by Alice Oseman (July 7)Did you know Heartstopper is another YA series ending this year? Nick and Charlie’s love story began with a webcomic in 2016, and then its traditional publishing run in 2019. If you haven’t read it yet, it follows two British teens who, starting as friends, soon realized they were falling for each other. We’ve followed them through thick and thin for about a decade now, and they’ve always managed to stay together when life gets in the way. But with Nick leaving for college soon, will they still be a couple when the series ends? You’ll have to read it to find out! |
![]() Empire by Sabaa Tahir (September 22)Moving on to Sabaa Tahir’s Heir Duology! This fantasy story began in Heir, and it follows three main characters. Aiz is an orphan who was just thrown into an inescapable prison for a mistake. Sirsha is an outcast who uses her magic to hunt down people and is now looking for a killer. Then there’s Quil, the crown prince of the Empire; he doesn’t want the throne, but he might just need to step up and become the leader his people need him to be. |
![]() Infernal Vow by Tigest Girma (March 11)Last but not least, the Immortal Dark Trilogy is also coming to an end—not quite in 2026, but at the very beginning of 2027. This magical dark academia series began with Immortal Dark in 2024. It tells the story of Kidan Adane, an orphaned heiress who is convinced that a specific vampire took her sister. To find her, Kidan infiltrates the elite Uxlay University— where more trials await her. As does Susenyos Saga, the vampire she suspects of having kidnapped June. |
