The 2000s were a wild time for sci-fi. CGI was taking over, franchises desperately wanted to look edgy, and movies used an R-rating just to hide terrible writing behind the cheap gore and a few jump scares. When it works, R-rated sci-fi is brilliant. When it doesn't? It's an absolute trainwreck.
