The whole point of a “family-friendly” film is that it is supposed to unite a family, as they share a magical cinematic experience together. Unfortunately, several filmmakers in the 2000s either forgot this filmic edict, ignored it altogether, or simply made the kind of (not appropriate for children) film that they wanted to and the distributors tried to shoehorn it into the lucrative “kids’ movies” category. Either way, this decade produced some real clunkers.
