James Cameron’s Avatar franchise is well-established as some of the most impressive work anyone has ever accomplished in the sci-fi genre. The first Avatar movie was released all the way back in 2009, and it was immediately hailed as one of the greatest sci-fi movies ever made. It won three Oscars for Best Cinematography, Best Visual Effects, and Best Art Direction, and it earned nominations in seven other categories. It was known for years that James Cameron was developing a sequel to Avatar, but it took over 10 years for that sequel to make it to the big screen. Cameron escorted audiences back to Pandora in 2022 with the release ofAvatar: The Way of Water. Both films grossed over $2 billion at the box office.
