Ever since the very first Academy Awards were held back in 1929, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has been recognizing what they deem to be the best performances of each respective year in four categories: Best Actor, Actress, Supporting Actor, and Supporting Actress. What started as a relatively small, private industry party, however, soon grew into the most prestigious and coveted awards ceremony in the entire film industry.
