The late Michael Crichton was one of the most successful authors ever (as well as a solid filmmaker), his books having sold over 200 million copies. Despite receiving an MD from Harvard University, Crichton never practiced medicine, choosing instead to pursue what would ultimately become an incredibly successful writing career.
