Science fiction is a super popular genre, and pretty much always has been since its inception. The genre basically focuses on futuristic visions for humanity, many of them hopeful, and many of them cynical. The stories almost always involve advanced technology, and sometimes include robots or alien life. There are a bunch of subgenres, with the "sci-fi" term being more of an umbrella term than anything. It can describe anything from near-future scenarios to distant space operas.
