A picture book has no room to hide as compared to a normal children's book. That’s because a picture book has only a few pages to win a child’s attention, calm a fear, create a rhythm, make an image unforgettable, and leave enough space for the adult reading aloud to feel something too. The greatest ones do not talk down to children. They trust them with hunger, loneliness, mischief, routine, danger, imagination, comfort, and wonder.
